Thank you creatives for following your passions. This holiday seems to quickly pop up more quickly than expected. Maybe its all the American media we get up here. Our Thanksgiving holiday long weekend is well over a month ahead (Nov. 27th) I like to think thats because we have so very much to be thankful for that it takes that much longer to get through our list.
The Thanksgiving holiday is also a reminder that the snow will fall shortly. Soon enough we will be battling the season, shovelling our sidewalks and trying not to slip and fall on our butts. Take the opportunity to share time with family and friends, revisit your art intentions, reopen those books and double down on your artistic commitments.
For me, I love the onset of winter because that means more time for making art in a warm studio. I hope to see you braving the cold and coming out to enjoy the ambience of the studio for one or more of our 7 weekly regularly programmed opportunities.
This past Friday, following our weekly Friday figure drawing (reminder date on that below) we had a monthly meeting of Bunny's book club. This instalment, some of the new acquisitions brought back from the London trip were featured on the table. We had a dot it yourself Nacho station to keep us fed. It's such a nice quiet way to study great art books together in the studio, the next one will be scheduled for November 28th 5 - 9pm.
Come get nerdy, its quiet and calming once the covers are cracked open and the studying and sketching begins. share your great finds, discover new artists and artworks with others of like mind.
Friday Figure reminder: NO CLASS HALLOWE'EN Friday October 31st.
Though its not a stat holiday, Learning from the past, we will forego holding a session where the stress and confusion about costumes and nude models. Instead people can prepare for their trick or treaters and parties.
SPOOKY SEASON Thursday Oct. 30th. 5- 8pm
No Drop in portrait session.
cSPACE has programmed a building wide event so we will have to sacrifice our regular portrait night because it will be loud and distracting. Instead we will host a FREE open studio event. The model will be halloween inspired, we will have a halloween inspired still life set up of bones and our skeleton "Fred Astaire" for those who want to come down to enjoy the festivities throughout the building, to draw or paint in the studio, to do a little candy gathering as they trick or treat from room to room enjoying the many programmed events throughout cSPACE.

This October, the halls of cSPACE Marda Loop come alive! Wander through four imaginative floors—each home to a mysterious “Creature” born from the spirit of the building itself: Creativity, Collaboration, Change, and Community.
Join us for an evening where art, imagination, and a touch of mischief mingle!
🎃 Take part in hands-on art activities, dance your heart out in an all-levels class, and discover what lurks around every corner on a spine-tingling ghost tour. There’s also trick-or-treating for the little (and not-so-little) monsters!

In hindsight, this post was really about a lot of "closure/not happening" dates but in between all the aforementioned dates theres plenty going on each week.
So let's circle back to the Thanksgiving theme and reflect on the gratitude that a cool place like Atelier Artista can exist in a city like Calgary.
Let's give thanks for the great models we have, the doors are still open, equipment is still in working order, the studio is constantly bathed in wonderful light, the parking is free in Mardaloop, Bunny is here to help you become a well rounded artists and enhance you creative goals with enthusiasm and passion. What else can you ask for?
May your bellies be full and the time with your loved ones be memorable.
