Keith will be sharing his techniques and secrets for creating these lovely drawings on toned paper with pastel and other materials.


This course will focus on drawing the figure using charcoal, pastel, and pan pastel on grey or colored paper.  


In this course you will going over the fundamentals of gesture and structure using a variety of mediums on toned paper. While drawing the figure students will explore couple different applications of these mediums and investigate some of the nuances of indication.  Course work will be from a photo reference as well as a live model.


Supplies needed:

Grey strathmore 18" x24" minimum 3 sheets.

Grey Ingres canson 19"x25 3 sheets

Pencils B or 2 B

kneaded eraser

Razor blades

Sand paper

Maul stick

Oval pan pastel applicator, 2 preferably

White pan pastel

Raw umber or black pan pastel

6b Generals pencils 4 minimum

White Generals pencils or other brands of white pastel 2 minimum

Vine charcoal

A few cheap brushes  small and big, for  charcoal powder application and softening edges

Paper stumps



Colored pastel pencils or sticks

Spray bottle with 99% alcohol

Gel pen

Tomo 2.3mm eraser
